1,455 Miles and Counting: Jack’s Trike Donation Powers Future Adventures
Back in August, we had the joy of riding with Jack and his mom, Monica, from Moving Forward 4 Ataxia on a stretch along the East Coast Greenway portion of their 1,455-mile bike ride from Maine to Ohio! They embarked on this ride to raise awareness for Ataxia and advocate for accessible bike trails, all while raising funds to purchase trikes for others.

Jack was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia at 22—a progressive neurodegenerative condition that affects coordination and balance. His perspective? “I don’t know why I got this, but worrying about it won’t change anything. Maybe I can help someone else who is also struggling.”
He discovered freedom on a recumbent trike. What started as a few laps around the park quickly turned into 100-mile rides! Jack’s all about heart and grit, and his tattoo says it best: “Ataxia struggles with me.” This guy doesn’t back down, and he’s on a mission to empower others with Ataxia to discover their own sense of freedom.
Fast forward to October: after conquering their ride, Jack generously donate the very trike he used to Waypoint Adventure! But before saying goodbye to his wheels, Jack joined us for a last hurrah—conquering the climbs of Mt. Wachusett. The uphills were tough, but the apple cider donuts at the summit? Totally worth it!

A huge thank you to Jack and Monica from Moving Forward 4 Ataxia for your generosity and spirit. We can’t wait to keep the adventure going with your Catrike recumbent trike on future Waypoint programs!
